Do churches need accounting?
Yes, they do. Since churches manage money from various
contributors, financial accountability is required to maintain member and donor trust. Churches may also need to file reports to authorities or even pay taxes in some cases. Therefore, churches need accounting to ensure money is spent wisely and legally.
What is ChMeetings Accounting?
ChMeetings Accounting is a module within the ChMeetings Church Management Solution that lets you perform essential accounting tasks for your church. You can use this module to manage church financial resources, track fund balances, create budgets, run reports, and more.
How do I manage my accounting with ChMeetings?
First, you must go through a setup process to create the necessary records for your accounts, funds, income and expense streams, permissions, etc. Then, you can import transactions manually or sync your bank accounts to add them automatically. Whenever a financial transaction occurs, it must be added to your accounting – whether that means money received or spent. Whenever you need to transfer money between accounts, you can do so; and you can attach the relevant documentation to justify the transfer. You must periodically compare your bank statements with your accounting records in ChMeetings, to make sure they are identical in terms of records and balances. This is called “Reconciliation” and should be done regularly; for example every month and at the end of the year. Whenever you need to check your funds in detail or you need to provide accounting data; you can generate detailed reports such as your Balance Sheet, income Statement, Fund Reports, Category Reports, and more.
How easy is it to migrate to ChMeetings from Quickbooks?

Do I need to hire an expert accountant to use ChMeetings Accounting successfully?
While you may not be legally bound to do so, depending on your location, we strongly recommend hiring an expert accountant to at least perform regular record reviews, and go through periodic reconciliation. It’s important for your finances to be accurately recorded and sometimes, legal requirements can complicate the accounting process. This is why it never hurts to have a professional take a look. That said, ChMeetings does not require you to hire an expert accountant.

Can I restrict access to Accounting?
Yes, you can. Security is key, even more so when it comes to financial information. ChMeetings lets you configure access permissions for the module, for each user role, to ensure that only authorized servants have access to accounting data.
Can I record money that doesn’t go through the bank?
Sometimes, you may receive funds that don’t get to your bank account. For example, some countries may allow churches to keep cash without being required to deposit it. For these cases, you can easily record your giving transaction using our Contributions module, and then deposit it to your accounting. This records the giving transactions and ensures that the corresponding amounts are accounted for.
Can I export my data if I ever want to change the accounting solution?
Absolutely! You can export your transactions to Excel, and then import them to any tool of your choice. Excel files are very widely supported, so you should not have compatibility issues with any up-to-date accounting solution.
Can I continue using ChMeetings if I ever want to change the accounting solution?
Yes, you can. Just disable the Accounting module from your Account Settings, and you’re good to go.
